Force Gauges for Measuring Weight Force: G21 S.r.l.

A Force Gauge is a measuring instrument used in mechanics to evaluate an applied force. Read on because we are going to talk about the measurement of the weight force in tension and compression.

In addition, thanks to G21 s.r.l. we will see how this measuring instrument is used in a highly specialized field: orthopedic bone cements.

What is tension?

The principle of tensile strength was introduced by Galileo Galilei and described in his 1638 work Discorsi e dimostrazioni matematiche intorno a due nuove scienze.

What is compression?

In mechanics, compression is a fundamental type of mechanical stress, alongside tension and bending. Compression is the stress a body experiences when it is subjected to a system of converging forces.

Force Gauge to Measure the Weight Force in Tension and Compression

SAMA Tools® digital force gauges, with internal or external load cells are used to measure tension and compression (weight force) and are capable of handling loads of up to 200,000 N.

These measuring instruments offer sensitivity and precision and are ideal for the most important needs and can be accompanied, upon request, by the calibration report or ACCREDIA certificate.

Force Gauges for Bone Cements

Powdered bone cement and ampoule used for anchoring hip, knee, and shoulder prostheses.

They are widely used in many industrial fields.

Today, we’d like to talk about the force gauge used for bone cements.

Bone cements are successfully employed to anchor hip, knee, shoulder and elbow prostheses.

Our Client G21 S.r.l. and Their Role

G21 S.r.l is a company in Modena, Italy that creates innovative solutions in the field of biomaterials and procedures for vertebral consolidation and restoration of joint functionality.

Since 2010,  it has been operating according to a Quality System and conforms to EN ISO 13485 “Quality Management Systems – requirements for regulatory purposes applicable to Medical Devices”.

The G21 product catalogue includes long-term implantable and Class III medical devices, with full ownership of the design and manufacturing know-how and technology. R&D is performed both in-house and in collaboration with internationally recognized universities and research institutions.

The company places strong emphasis on top-grade raw materials, tight process and supplier control, and alignment with strict international quality standards.

In particular, G21 relies on us for the supply and calibration of equipment used to measure breaking loads. The low levels of tensile force require highly accurate and repeatable instruments, including our digital force gauges.

In particular, the SADFGE-P model features load cells that, due to their dimensions, cannot be built into the instrument and are sized according to the required load capacity. It is fitted with a high-performance load cell that guarantees accuracy and minimizes full-scale error.

Start off on the right foot with SAMA Tools® measuring instruments, just like G21 S.r.l. does!

What’s a force gauge and what does it measure?

A force gauge is a device that measures applied force, typically in Newtons (N), kgf, or lbf, and can be used for both pulling (tension) and pushing (compression) applications.

What’s the difference between an analog force gauge and a digital one?

An analog force gauge shows measurements on a dial with a pointer, making it simple and durable. A digital force gauge displays numeric values with higher precision and often allows data storage and software connectivity. For applications that require strong repeatability and traceability, like those at G21 S.r.l., the digital version is generally preferred.

What is an external load cell?

The load cell is the component that detects the applied force. When force ranges are either very low or very high, the load cell cannot be built into the instrument body, so it is mounted externally and selected based on the required load capacity. This is the case for the SADFGE-P model used by G21 S.r.l.

Can the force gauge be calibrated with an ACCREDIA-certified certificate?

Yes. Upon request, our force gauges can be supplied with either a calibration report or ACCREDIA certification, compliant with UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 standards. This is particularly important for regulated industries such as medical devices.

Where else is a force gauge used, apart from mechanical applications?

Force gauges are used in various fields: medical (bone cements in orthopedics), automotive, aerospace, construction, packaging, and research and development laboratories. Its versatility makes it suitable for any process that requires accurate force measurement.
