External load cell digital force gauges – SADFGE-P

The external load cell digital force gauges are designed to measure medium and high forces in tension and compression applications. Separating the display unit from the sensor makes it possible to integrate the load cell directly into the test system, while keeping the display in a convenient position for reading and measurement management.

The range covers measuring capacities from 1 kN to 200 kN and is available in two configurations:

  • Tension and compression measurement with S-type load cells
  • Compression measurement with round R-type load cells

S-type load cells are suitable when force must be measured in both directions and can be installed between two connection points along the load axis. Round R-type load cells are dedicated to compression tests and can also handle the highest capacities in the range.

The series offers excellent accuracy and allows accurate checks on components, assemblies and systems subjected to loads that could not be handled by a force gauge with an integrated load cell. Capacity selection should take account of the maximum expected force, maintaining an adequate margin above the anticipated value.

The peak function keeps the maximum value reached during the test visible, making it useful for breakage, detachment, extraction or failure checks. Minimum and maximum thresholds can also be set to verify whether the result falls within the limits established by the control procedure.

The internal memory can store up to 1,000 values, which can be organised into groups to distinguish between test sessions, batches or different samples. Stored results can be reviewed directly on the instrument or transferred to a PC later.

Software and connection cable are included. The software allows stored values to be downloaded and measurements to be acquired in real time, displaying the load curve during the test. Data and graphs can also be exported, average and peak values analysed over the entire curve or a selected section, and recording start and stop conditions set. The complete curve is generated during real-time acquisition, while previously stored numerical values can be transferred from the internal memory.

For controlled-speed bench tests, the force gauge can be combined with:

  • Double-column motorized test stands – SAHDV

SAHDV test stands are suitable for tension, compression, insertion, extraction and breaking-load tests. Motorized movement allows the load to be applied more uniformly, work cycles to be programmed and operator influence to be reduced in repeated tests.

According to the part being checked, the load cells can be fitted with clamps, adaptors and fastening systems selected according to sample geometry, force direction and expected load. During the test, the load cell and sample must remain correctly aligned, since lateral or angular forces can affect the result and apply unintended stresses to the sensor.

For lower-load applications with an integrated load cell, high-accuracy digital force gauges are also available. The external-load-cell series is the more suitable choice when higher capacities are required or when the sensor must be integrated directly into the test equipment.

FAQ – External load cell digital force gauges

What is an external load cell digital force gauge used for?
It is used to measure medium and high forces in tension or compression, using a load cell separate from the display unit and installed directly in the test system.

What is the difference compared with a force gauge with an integrated load cell?
An external load cell allows higher capacities to be handled and the sensor to be positioned directly at the point where the load is applied, while the display unit remains separate.

What is the difference between S-type and R-type load cells?
S-type load cells measure force in both tension and compression. Round R-type load cells are designed exclusively for compression tests.

For which loads is this range suitable?
The range is intended for medium and high loads and includes different capacities. The model should be selected according to the maximum expected force, maintaining an adequate margin to avoid overloads.

Can the force gauge measure breaking load?
Yes. The peak function makes it possible to detect the maximum value reached before breakage, detachment or failure of the sample.

Can acceptance limits be set?
Yes. Minimum and maximum thresholds can be set to verify whether the measured value falls within the required range.

Does the instrument have internal memory?
Yes. The memory can store up to 1,000 values and organise measurements into different groups.

Can stored data be transferred to a PC?
Yes. The included software allows numerical values stored in the instrument memory to be downloaded to a computer.

Can the software display the load curve?
Yes. When the force gauge is connected to a PC during the test, the software acquires data in real time and displays the force trend graphically.

Which analysis functions are available in the software?
The software allows data and graphs to be exported, average and peak values to be calculated, and the entire curve or a selected section to be analysed.

Can the force gauge be used on a test stand?
Yes. It can be combined with SAHDV double-column motorized test stands for controlled-speed tests and repeated work cycles.

Which tests can be performed with SAHDV test stands?
The test stands can be used for tension, compression, insertion, extraction, strength and breaking-load tests.

Can dedicated clamps and accessories be used?
Yes. The load cell can be fitted with clamps, adaptors and connection systems selected according to the sample and test.

Why is it important to keep the load cell aligned with the sample?
The load cell is designed to measure forces applied along its axis. Lateral or angular stresses can affect the result and damage the sensor.

Is a calibration report available?
Yes. A calibration report is available on request.
