This abrasion test, for coatings of touch screen displays, is used to evaluate the durability and performance of hydrophobic and omniphobic coatings that are usually used to improve the resistance to fingerprints, stains, water removal and facilitate the cleaning of the surface.
The test consists of steel wire brush on the surface, the test method measures the change in the contact angle of water droplets on the coated surface before and after abrasion. The contact angle is the angle formed by the tangent of the droplet at the point of contact with the surface. A higher contact angle indicates a higher degree of water repellency.
The test is widely used in the electronics industry that is dedicated to the production of touch screen displays.
