A Gauge block consists in a worked parallelepiped to obtain two opposing parallel faces, spaced apart by a precise altitude (nominal thickness).
Gauge blocks are not employed individually, but it is normal to buy and use them in more or less numerous series. Gauges blocks series have blocks of different sizes, with arithmetic progressions that allow creating many other gauges by combining few elements.
Gauges blocks can be employed: as a template, to verify the dimensional compliance of an object (controls go/no go); as measuring instrument, to perform dimensional tests (resolution up to 0,001mm); as a reference tool, to check the measuring accuracy of other instruments (use as a sample).
