Class 2 sound level meter for noise measurement – SA5868P

The Class 2 sound level meter is an instrument used to measure ambient sound pressure levels and monitor noise generated by machinery, motors, systems and sound sources. It is suitable for internal checks, comparative assessments and noise measurements where decibel values need to be obtained simply and immediately.

The instrument offers four measurement modes. The Lp function displays the instantaneous sound pressure level, useful for identifying the noise measured at a specific moment. The Leq mode calculates the equivalent sound level over a selectable time interval, providing a value representative of the overall sound energy. Lmax highlights the maximum level reached during measurement, while Ln provides a statistical assessment of values exceeding a set alarm threshold.

The option to select A, C or F frequency weighting makes it possible to adapt the measurement to the type of sound source being checked. A weighting is useful when a response close to human hearing is required; C weighting can be used for checks on machinery, motors and sources with more significant low-frequency sound components; F mode, on the other hand, allows measurement without a weighting filter. Fast or Slow selection makes it possible to adapt the response time to noise variability: Fast is suitable for rapid phenomena and sound peaks, while Slow helps observe more continuous sources or noises that vary rapidly.

The internal memory stores up to 30 complete measurements, which is useful for comparing checks carried out at different points or at different times. An alarm threshold can also be set: when the selected value is exceeded, the instrument activates its visual indicator.

The data output allows connection to optional software for data collection. With the sound level meter connected to a PC, values can be acquired in real time, measurements stored in memory can be transferred, inspection sessions can be saved, data can be exported, and charts and statistics of the collected measurements can be viewed.

The SAND9+ sound level meter calibrator is available for operational verification of the sound level meter.

Calibration report available on request, to accompany the sound level meter with metrological documentation useful for internal checks and for monitoring its status over time.

FAQ – Class 2 sound level meter

What does a sound level meter measure?
A sound level meter measures sound pressure level, namely noise expressed in decibels. It can be used to monitor ambient noise or noise generated by machinery, systems, motors and other sound sources.

What does Class 2 sound level meter mean?
Class 2 identifies a category of sound level meters suitable for technical checks and internal sound-level assessments. It can be used in many industrial and maintenance applications where noise needs to be measured with a dedicated instrument, without having to choose a sound level meter with more advanced functions or performance.

What is the difference between Lp, Leq, Lmax and Ln?
Lp indicates the instantaneous sound level. Leq calculates the equivalent level over a set time interval. Lmax displays the maximum value detected during measurement. Ln provides a statistical assessment of values equal to or above the selected alarm threshold.

When should A or C weighting be used?
A weighting is useful when a response similar to the sensitivity of human hearing is required. C weighting is suitable for checks on machinery, motors and sound sources where relevant low-frequency components may be present.

Can the sound level meter store measurements?
Yes, the instrument has internal memory for storing up to 30 complete measurements. This function is useful for comparing measurements taken at different times or at several points within the same environment.

Can the sound level meter be connected to a PC?
Yes, with optional cable and software, the sound level meter can be connected to a PC to acquire data in real time and transfer measurements stored in the instrument memory. The software also allows measurement sessions to be archived, data to be exported, and charts and statistics of the collected values to be viewed.

What is a sound level meter calibrator used for?
A sound level meter calibrator generates a known acoustic signal and is used for operational verification of the sound level meter. It is useful for periodically checking the instrument response before measurements are taken.

Is a calibration report available for the sound level meter?
Yes, a calibration report is available on request for the sound level meter.
