Closed paint mixers and shakers – SAMS763-4

The closed paint mixers and shakers are designed to mix, disperse and homogenise the contents of cans, pails and containers of paints, enamels, coatings and similar products. They are particularly useful when the material must be prepared before application, quality control or laboratory testing.

Over time, pigments, fillers and other solid components can settle at the bottom of the container, affecting the uniformity of the product. Proper mixing restores the material to a more homogeneous condition, helping to make sure that the product has a consistent composition and appearance throughout the entire container.

The mixer operates with the container closed and securely positioned inside the working chamber. Once the mixing time has been set, the can is moved according to the operating principle of the selected model, promoting product dispersion without having to open the container during mixing.

This operating method is particularly useful for limiting operator exposure to the material and reducing the release of odours, vapours and volatile organic compounds. Since the container remains closed throughout the cycle, the process is cleaner and more controlled than manual mixing.

Where dimensions allow, several containers can also be mixed at the same time. The cans must have the same height and be positioned correctly on the support base, securely and without interference during the mixing cycle. The number of containers that can be used therefore depends on the available space on the base and on whether they can be securely positioned.

Two operating principles are available: oscillating mixers and shakers and rotary mixers and shakers.

  • In oscillating mixers and shakers, the container is moved through a rapid combination of vertical and horizontal movements. This operating principle is suitable when vigorous mixing of paint cans and containers is required to promote effective dispersion of the material.
  • In rotary mixers and shakers, the container is moved through a combination of rotation and revolution. This movement generates a different mixing action, helping to achieve a uniform distribution of the components inside the container.

The range includes models that have manual clamping and ones with automatic clamping. On manual models, the operator secures the container by adjusting the clamping force according to the container. On automatic models, the machine controls the container locking process and simplifies the setting of the operating cycle.

Automatic versions are suitable when faster and more controlled management of the clamping phase is required, especially in applications where containers are handled frequently. The display allows the operator to monitor cycle status and operating time.

Paint mixers and shakers are useful in paint shops, coating departments, laboratories, quality-control departments, production environments and wherever paint containers need to be prepared before use. They can also be used before viscosity, density, fineness of grind, drying-time or other coating-related tests.

The choice between an oscillating and a rotary model depends on the type of container, the material to be mixed, the required level of homogenisation and how often it is used. When the work cycle is repetitive or containers are handled frequently, a model with automatic clamping can help make the process faster and more consistent.

Closed paint mixers and shakers therefore provide a practical solution for correctly preparing paints, enamels and coatings, improving material homogeneity before application or technical inspection.

Applications

  • Mixing of paints, enamels and coatings
  • Agitation of closed cans, pails and containers
  • Material preparation before application
  • Homogenisation of products containing pigments, fillers or settling components
  • Used in paint shops, laboratories, production and coating departments
  • Preparation of samples before quality-control checks
  • Reduction of direct handling of the material
  • Available with oscillating or rotary movement
  • Management with manual or automatic container clamping

FAQ – Closed paint mixers and shakers

What is a paint container mixer and shaker used for?
It is used to mix and homogenise the contents of cans, pails and paint containers before application, production or quality control.

Why is it important to mix paint before use?
Pigments, fillers and other components can settle over time. Mixing helps restore the material to a more uniform condition.

What is the difference between an oscillating and a rotary mixer and shaker?
An oscillating mixer and shaker moves the container with rapid vertical and horizontal action. A rotary mixer and shaker combines rotation and revolution of the container.

When should an oscillating mixer and shaker be selected?
It is suitable when vigorous mixing action is required on containers of paint, enamel or similar products.

When should a rotary mixer and shaker be selected?
It is suitable when mixing based on the combination of rotation and revolution of the container is preferred.

What is the difference between manual clamping and automatic clamping?
With manual clamping, the operator secures the container by directly adjusting the closure. With automatic clamping, the system manages locking in a faster and more controlled way.

Can mixers and shakers be used before laboratory testing?
Yes. They are useful for preparing the material before viscosity, density, fineness of grind, drying-time or other coating tests.

In which sectors are these mixers and shakers used?
They are used in paint shops, coating departments, laboratories, production and quality-control activities, as well as wherever paints, enamels and coatings must be prepared.

Can several containers be mixed at the same time?
Yes, where dimensions allow. The containers must have the same height and be positioned correctly on the support base, securely and without interference during the mixing cycle.
