Torque test stand – SABTV

The torque test stand is a vertical manual structure designed for torsion tests on components, assembled parts and closure systems. It provides a stable test setup in which the sample is supported and kept correctly aligned while torque is applied.

Torsion is applied through the rotational movement of the lower base, operated manually by the side handwheel. The progressive rotation allows the operator to control the test advance and apply torque without sudden movements.

The upper support is height-adjustable, allowing the configuration to be adapted to the length of the sample and to the gripping system used. This adjustment makes it possible to position components of different sizes correctly, keeping the test axis aligned with that of the torque tester.

Depending on the application, the measuring system and gripping devices can be installed on the upper section or on the lower base. The sample is secured between the devices provided by the selected configuration, while rotation of the base generates the torque detected by the torque tester.

The test stand does not measure torque directly. Measurement is performed by the torque tester or torque cell installed in the setup, while the structure supports the sample, maintains alignment and allows rotation to be applied manually.

This modular arrangement makes it possible to prepare a wide range of tests. The stand can be used to check the torque required to tighten or loosen a component, start the rotation of a part, operate a knob or progressively twist a sample until the condition established by the test procedure is reached.

Suitable gripping devices can be used for cylindrical components, shafts, inserts and parts with different geometries. Optional chucks allow the clamping arrangement to be adapted to the diameter and shape of the sample, while dedicated fixtures can be designed or selected according to the test requirement.

The height adjustment of the upper carriage also makes it possible to bring the gripping device closer to the component, reducing the need for improvised adaptations and making test preparation more orderly.

During testing, the sample must be secured firmly and torque must be applied along the correct axis of rotation. Misalignment, play or insufficient clamping can generate lateral stresses and affect the measurement result.

Manual hand carriage also makes it possible to bring the gripping device closer to the component, reducing the need for improvised adaptations and making test preparation more orderly.

During testing, the sample must be secured firmly and torque must be applied along the correct axis of rotation. Misalignment, play or insufficient clamping can generate lateral stresses and affect the measurement result.

Manual handwheel operation provides direct control over the speed at which torque is applied. The operator can approach the required value gradually, observe the torque trend on the instrument and stop the test when the established condition is reached.

The torque test stand can be used for non-destructive checks, in which the sample is subjected to a predefined torque, as well as for tests that continue until slipping, loosening, yielding or breakage of the component.

The measuring instrument records the test values, while final evaluation remains the responsibility of the user, who compares the results with the specifications, tolerances or acceptance criteria established for the component being checked.

The structure is suitable for laboratory, testing, production and quality-control activities, particularly when manual torsion tests require a more stable configuration than one in which the sample and torque tester are supported directly by hand.

FAQ – Torque test stand

What is a torque test stand used for?
It supports and keeps the sample and measuring system aligned during tightening, loosening, rotation and torsional-strength tests.

Does the test stand measure torque directly?
No. Torque is measured by the torque tester or torque cell installed in the test configuration.

How is torque applied?
The lower base is rotated manually by the side handwheel, progressively applying torque to the sample.

What is the purpose of the adjustable upper support?
It allows the test setup height to be adapted to the length of the component and enables the gripping device or measuring system to be positioned correctly.

Must the torque tester always be installed on the lower section?
No. The layout depends on the selected configuration. The measuring system and gripping devices can be positioned differently according to the sample and test.

How is the sample secured?
The component is clamped between the upper and lower gripping devices provided by the configuration. The choice of equipment depends on the part shape, dimensions and type of test.

Can the test stand be used with components of different lengths?
Yes. The adjustable upper carriage allows the distance between the gripping systems to be adapted to the dimensions of the sample.

Which gripping devices can be used?
Chucks and clamping equipment compatible with the geometry of the component can be used. The setup must provide stable fixing without altering the behaviour of the sample.

Why is alignment important?
Correct alignment allows torque to be applied along the intended axis, limiting bending and lateral stresses that could affect the measurement.

Is movement manual?
Yes. The operator controls base rotation through the handwheel and directly manages the progress of the test.

Can tightening and loosening tests be performed?
Yes. The setup can be configured to check the torque applied during the closing or opening of compatible components.

Can the stand be used to verify breakaway torque?
Yes. It can measure the torque required to start the rotation of shafts, knobs, regulators and other components.

Is it suitable for tests up to breakage?
It can be used for tests that continue until sample failure, provided that the torque tester, test stand and equipment are correctly sized for the application.

Can caps and closures be checked?
Yes. With a suitable configuration, it can be used for opening and closing tests on compatible containers and closure systems.

Does the test stand determine whether the component is compliant?
No. The system applies torsion and measures torque. Evaluation is performed by the user according to the applicable limits and criteria.

When is a test stand preferable to an unrestricted manual test?
It is particularly useful when the sample needs to be supported, alignment maintained and rotation applied in a more stable and controlled way.

Wher can it be used?
It is suitable for laboratories, production departments, testing activities, research and quality-control applications.
