The vertical digital force/displacement test stand enables motorised tension and compression tests by coordinating the force measured by the force gauge with the movement applied to the sample. It is designed for use with the SADFG-P high-accuracy digital force gauge, forming a system suitable for controlled, comparative and repeated tests.
Unlike a conventional motorised test stand, it allows the work cycle to be programmed according to the displacement reached or the applied force value. The operator can therefore select the test mode that best matches the behaviour of the component and the result to be measured.
In displacement-based cycles, movement is managed through predefined relative positions. It is possible to configure the positions to be reached, the speed of the individual phases, dwell times and the number of repetitions. This mode is useful when the sample needs to be compressed, elongated, inserted or extracted through a defined distance.
In force-based cycles, the test stand receives values from the force gauge and controls movement according to the set thresholds. The test can be configured by defining the force levels to be reached, operating speeds, the time for which each force value must be maintained and the subsequent return phases. This allows automatic sequences with progressive loads and controlled holding times to be created, providing a more uniform procedure than manual movement control.
The test stand can operate in manual mode or automatic mode. In manual mode, the operator directly controls the direction and speed of movement. In automatic mode, the system runs the selected programme, repeating the cycle according to the previously stored parameters.
Several force- and displacement-based programmes can be saved and recalled when a previously configured test needs to be repeated. This is particularly useful for recurring inspections, comparisons between different batches and checks requiring consistent operating conditions.
The Demo function allows a programme to be created from a movement carried out manually. The operator defines the starting point, the different travel phases and their respective speeds; the test stand records the sequence and makes it repeatable in automatic mode.
The integrated display shows the position of the moving platform and allows a relative zero to be set, so that actual displacement can be measured from a point selected by the operator. A reference position can also be defined, allowing the system to return automatically to the preset point and simplifying test preparation and repetition.
Movement speed is adjustable and can be adapted to the material, sample geometry and test phase. Different approach, working, return and dwell speeds can be set to create cycles that more closely reflect the actual operating conditions of the component.
The system offers two different acquisition methods, to be selected according to the type of analysis required.
By connecting the SADFG-P force gauge to its software, it is possible to acquire force variation over time in real time, obtaining a force/time curve. This mode allows the load trend during the test to be observed and average and peak values to be analysed over the entire recording or a selected section. The force-gauge software also allows stored peak values to be transferred from the instrument.
Using the dedicated SAHSV-P test stand software, the system combines the force measured by the force gauge with the displacement measured by the test stand, generating the force/displacement curve in real time. This mode makes it possible to assess how load changes as the sample position changes and is particularly useful for compression, tension, insertion, extraction and deformation tests.
The software allows acquired data and graph images to be exported, the acquisition frequency to be set and a selected portion of the curve to be enlarged. The choice between a force/time curve and a force/displacement curve therefore depends on the parameter to be related to force during the test.
According to the application, the test stand can be completed with clamps, compression plates, hooks, adaptors and sample-holding systems. Correct alignment between the force gauge, accessories and component is essential to apply force along the intended axis and limit lateral stresses.
Where sample geometry or test direction makes a horizontal configuration more suitable, the SADFGHS-EP horizontal digital force/displacement test stand is also available, with the same programming and acquisition functions.

FAQ – Vertical digital force/displacement test stand
What is the vertical digital force/displacement test stand used for?
It is used to perform motorised tension and compression tests, controlling movement according to displacement or the force measured by the force gauge.
Which force gauge can be mounted on the test stand?
The test stand is designed for use with the SADFG-P high-accuracy digital force gauge.
What is the difference between a force-based cycle and a displacement-based cycle?
In a force-based cycle, movement is controlled according to the values measured by the force gauge. In a displacement-based cycle, the test follows the programmed positions and distances.
Can the test stand be used manually?
Yes. In manual mode, the operator directly controls the direction and speed of movement.
Can a test be automated?
Yes. After the programme has been configured, the test stand can automatically perform the set cycle, including approach, working, return and any dwell phases.
Can several programmes be stored?
Yes. The test stand can save several force- and displacement-based programmes and recall them when a previously configured test needs to be repeated.
What is the Demo function used for?
It allows a manually performed movement sequence to be converted into a repeatable automatic programme.
Can speed be changed during the different test phases?
Yes. Speed can be configured for the different sections of the cycle, such as approach, working phase and return.
Can a force be maintained for a defined time during automatic cycles?
Yes. In force-based programmes, the force value to be reached and the time for which it must be maintained can be set before proceeding to the next cycle phase.
Does the test stand measure force directly?
No. Force is measured by the SADFG-P force gauge. When connected to the test stand, the measured value is transmitted and can also be displayed on the test-stand display, while the test stand controls movement and measures displacement.
Can a relative zero be set?
Yes. The operator can select a reference point and reset the coordinate to display actual displacement from that position.
What is the locating function used for?
It allows a reference position to be stored and the moving platform to return automatically to the preset point.
Is the software included?
Yes. The dedicated test-stand software and the relevant connection cable are included.
Which graphs can be obtained during the test?
Using the SADFG-P software, a force/time curve is obtained. Using the test-stand software with both the force gauge and test stand connected, a force/displacement curve is generated.
What is the difference between the force-gauge software and the test-stand software?
The force-gauge software relates force to time and also allows stored peak values to be transferred. The test-stand software instead combines the force measured by the force gauge with the displacement performed during the test.
When is the force/time curve useful?
It is useful when it is necessary to observe how the load varies over the duration of the test, identify peaks and analyse force variation over time.
When is the force/displacement curve useful?
It is suitable when the force at a specific position, deformation, insertion depth or component travel needs to be known.
Can results acquired with the test-stand software be exported?
Yes. The software allows acquired data to be exported and the force/displacement graph image to be saved.
Is a horizontal configuration also available?
Yes. The SADFGHS-EP horizontal digital force/displacement test stand is available for tests performed along a horizontal axis.
Can different clamps and accessories be used?
Yes. The system can be configured with clamps, compression plates, hooks and adaptors selected according to the sample and the test to be carried out.
