Electrical measuring instruments
Electrical measuring instruments make it possible to monitor the main parameters of electrical systems, panels, power lines, motors, equipment and electrical components. Voltage, current, resistance, insulation and continuity are useful data for maintenance, technical service, testing and internal inspection activities.
Instrument selection depends on the parameter to be measured and the type of check required. A clamp meter is useful for measuring current without interrupting the conductor; a digital multimeter combines several electrical functions in the same instrument; an insulation tester makes it possible to assess the condition of cables, motors and circuits; and a dedicated kit can provide a complete set of equipment for lift-industry inspections, including instruments for electrical, mechanical, dimensional, illuminance and pressure checks on systems.
AC/DC clamp meters
AC/DC clamp meters are used to check electrical current draw on lines, panels, motors, power supplies and system components without disconnecting the conductor. The clamp closes around the individual cable and detects the current flowing through it, making checks more immediate during maintenance, fault finding and periodic inspections.
The range includes digital clamp meters capable of measuring AC and DC current, as well as voltage, resistance, frequency, continuity and diodes. Depending on the model, additional functions such as temperature, capacitance, duty cycle, Min/Max values and True RMS are also available.
The True RMS function is useful when AC current and voltage do not have a perfectly sinusoidal waveform. In these situations, it provides a reading that is more representative of the true effective value, for example during checks on electronic power supplies, inverters, motors and equipment with non-linear loads.
For AC/DC current checks and general electrical inspections, the SAPA5940 and SAPA5950 clamp meters can be selected.
Digital multimeters for voltage, current and resistance
A digital multimeter combines the functions of a voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter in one instrument. It is suitable for measuring AC/DC voltage and current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, duty cycle and temperature, as well as carrying out continuity checks and diode tests.
These digital testers are used on electrical systems, panels, power supplies, electronic equipment, control circuits and technical components. Having several functions available makes it possible to perform different checks without the need for separate single-function instruments.
The SAMU6010 can be selected for the most common complete electrical checks; the SAMU6020 when True RMS, non-contact voltage detection and PC data collection are required; or the SAMU6050 when higher resolution, a dual display and comparison between two temperatures are needed.
For compatible models, data output allows connection to software for measurement data collection, improving traceability and reducing transcription errors in quality-control processes.
Electrical insulation tester for cables and motors
The electrical insulation tester, also called a megohmmeter or insulation tester, is used to check the insulation condition of cables, windings, motors, circuits and electrical equipment. The test makes it possible to assess the resistance provided by insulation against current flow between conductors or to earth.
This check can help identify conditions that require further technical investigation, such as insulation deterioration, humidity, contamination, wear or damage to cables and components. It is useful during preventive maintenance, testing, technical service and inspections on electrical systems.
The SAMR500 insulation resistance tester also includes functions for measuring AC/DC voltage, resistance and continuity, providing equipment suitable for several electrical checks on the same system or component.
Lift industry instrument kit
The SA-KIT-ASC1 lift industry instrument kit brings together, in a single carrying case, the instruments used to measure the main parameters during inspections on lift systems: force applied to doors, speed, car illuminance, pressure, electrical insulation, current draw and dimensional measurements on accessible components.
The set includes instruments for checking the force applied to lift doors, movement speed, car illuminance, pressure in hydraulic circuits, electrical insulation, current draw and dimensions on accessible components, such as the diameter of suspension ropes.
The carrying-case configuration makes it possible to prepare an organised, ready-to-use set of equipment for each operator, avoiding the need to gather instruments from different cases every time. All included instruments are supplied with a calibration report.
How to choose an electrical measuring instrument
To check current without interrupting the circuit, a clamp meter is the most practical solution. When several electrical quantities need to be measured on the same system or component, a digital multimeter makes it possible to check voltage, current, resistance and other parameters with a single instrument.
When the check concerns the condition of cables, motors, windings or electrical circuits, an insulation tester makes it possible to perform the dedicated test with voltages selectable according to the application. For lift inspections requiring several coordinated instruments, the dedicated kit instead provides a complete, organised and already documented set of equipment.
