What is a Gauge block?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Gauge block consists in a parallelepiped, which works to obtain two opposing parallel faces, spaced apart by a precise altitude (nominal thickness).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These Gauge blocks are also called Johansson blocks, in honour of the Swedish Carl Edvard Johansson<\/strong>, who certified them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The beginning of modern industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Even if the inventor\u2019s history is not well known, his gauge blocks created the modern industry, making the present day mass production possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 1890, he started to work in the Carl Gustafs Stads\u2019 rifles factory in Eskilstuna, where he became Chief Inspector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His main task was to verify different metrological instruments employed in weapons manufacture, which was the first mass production of that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1897 Johansson created his first gauge blocks\u2019 set<\/strong>, but his fight to obtain the Swedish patent lasted up until 1904, while the English one was obtained two years before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1903 his invention received a silver during an exposition in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1923 he moved on the USA being taken<\/strong> by Henry Ford<\/strong>, the car\u2019s inventor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the lobby of Ford\u2019s firm there was<\/strong> a glass furniture with a British Encyclopaedia together with a Johansson\u2019s gauge blocks set<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both were very significant in Ford\u2019s opinion, so he trusted CE Johansson a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson\u2019s gauge blocks box<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gauge blocks are rarely used alone, they are usually bought and used in series with several pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
