Outside Micrometers

The outside micrometer (available in both analog and digital versions) is a precision measuring instrument capable of detecting dimensions with a resolution of up to one-thousandth of a millimeter. Ideal for measuring the thickness and external diameters of bars, wires, spheres, and mechanical components, it is widely used in industrial applications, precision machining, and quality control.

Its structure consists of a steel or tubular frame with two coaxial cylinders at its ends: a fixed one, called the anvil, and a movable one, represented by the measuring spindle. The anvil is firmly attached to the frame, while the threaded spindle moves within a coaxial sleeve, controlled by a graduated thimble that allows for precise adjustments.

Using an outside micrometer is straightforward but requires care to ensure accurate measurements. Once the object is positioned, the thimble is gently rotated using the friction mechanism, preventing excessive pressure that could affect the reading. The measurement is read by combining the main value on the fixed scale with the hundredths displayed on the thimble.

Thanks to its high precision and reliability, this micrometer is an essential tool for quality control and dimensional verification in industries where maximum accuracy is required.
