Cross hatch tester, composed by a handle and a metallic head, is a device employed to perform adhesion of coatings referring to a surface.
The measuring procedure consists in sliding the selected head orthogonally on the sample, in order to track a grid on the coating. Comparing the status of the coating after the test with an internationally acknowledged table, it is possible to determine the adhesion grade.
A magnifying lens and a transparent adhesive tape are used respectively to facilitate the operator and to keep record of tests. Cross hatch testers are employed in every industrial process concerning paintings and coatings.
